Description
This is a lightly used, but still quite crispy,
“Une Gourde”
note from the
"Banque Nationale de la Republique D’Haïti".
A part of its sixth issue, the note was authorized by the law of April 12, 1919, but was actually issued between 1951 and 1964.
A slave revolt began the Haitian Revolution of 1791 to 1804. At first it was led by Toussaint Louverture who was captured and died in France. Jean-Jacques Dessalines declared Haiti independent on January 1, 1804. It became the first independent nation of Latin America and the Caribbean, the second republic in the Americas,
(after the then still new United States)
the first country to abolish slavery, and the only state in history established by a successful slave revolt.

The Haitians outfitted the fortress with 365 cannons of varying size, assembled from the abandoned munitions left behind by the European forces that formerly occupied the island.
Back:
Brown. • Printed by the American Bank Note Company, New York.
The Note:
Mildly circulated, it has been folded and lightly soiled. It has no edge or body tears, and no pinholes.
The note will be sent in a new currency holder that protects it.
